Chapter Fifteen

A fter waking up the next morning, I cry again. Losing the one person that gets you when no one else does is the worst feeling in the world. Someone who knows you so well and could easily tell when something's off, and without you even telling them. I know she felt it last night, that something's off, but I had to make her believe everything for her own sake. I believe it was the best and worst decision I have ever had to make. I just hope she's happy in the end.

A doctor comes in to check my vitals and then tells me everything looks good, and I can be released once my paperwork is done. This is great news, really! I was going to go insane if I remained in this hospital room for an additional day. I hope they can speed up the papers though, I want to get out of here before Ashlyne decides to show up.

I call Ace, and he says he'll come get me. Thirty minutes later, I have the papers in hand and climbing into Ace's truck. "Hey, thanks, man. I'm ready to get the hell out of here."

"No worries, bro. Just glad you're good. That psycho really did a number on you."

Isn't that the truth. "No shit. What a nightmare. Did you get all the ruined photos of Kenz? I don't want her to see them."

"The photos weren't there."

"What do you mean? They were scattered all over the floor."

"Just your clothes in there, bro—no pictures."

I slam my hand on the dashboard. "What the fuck? I lost my girl, I have a psycho ass bitch that's obsessed with me, and a case pending on me, is there anything I'm forgetting?"

"Well… uhm... uhm—"

"Well what, Adams? Now's not the time to go all stuttering Stanley on me. Just spit it out already."

"Fuck, all right. Last night when we were in the truck and uh, Kenz and I were talking, Zeke showed up."

"Motherfucker," I growl. He couldn't even wait a fucking day before he tried to put the moves on her. He's messed with the wrong guy. "Take me to look for him now."

He looks at me like I have two heads. "You literally just got out the hospital, you do realize that, right?"

"I don't give a damn, take me to find him, Adams, or I will get the fuck out and look for him myself."

"Okay, okay, don't get your panties in a bunch."

We drive around for about fifteen minutes looking for him. We pass by the park, the restaurant, and Jake’s house we picked him up from on Saturday.

"Take me to Kenz's house. I need to get my shit I left there," I tell Ace, tired of the fruitless search.

"That's not a good idea, Sanchez. Let me pick it up for you. You don't need to see her right now. It's too soon."

"I don't need a fuckin' therapy session. Take me to her house, or I'll walk my ass there."

He curses under his breath, and we head to Kenz's.
